Together for Gender Equality: CESO experts share experiences
More than 150 people listened to volunteer advisors from CESO and other NGOs in February as they described how they have improved women’s lives in assignments around the world.
In celebration of Canada’s International Development Week (IDW2019), CESO co-organized events in Toronto and Montreal to highlight Canadian contributions to gender equality and sustainable development in impoverished countries.
CESO volunteer experts, Debbie Scoffield, François Cauchy and Isabelle Noury were among those who shared their stories as Volunteer Advisors on work supporting Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.
In Toronto, CESO expert Debbie Scoffield shared her experience of working with the Ethiopian Women Exporters Association. “I work one on one with the women to understand what their needs are and to empower them as individuals so they can build their businesses and their communities.”
François Cauchy, Isabelle Noury and Serge Bissaillon, as event moderator, represented CESO in Montreal. François and Isabelle highlighted their enriching volunteer experiences in Côte d’Ivoire and Bénin, respectively. “It’s important to listen to the partners because it helps further inform what is really needed versus what is on paper,” said François Cauchy, on facilitating positive outcomes for local partners and volunteers.
The events were held in close collaboration with other Canadian organizations and projects, CESO thanks and gratefully acknowledges the financial support of Global Affairs Canada in its international development work.
